PhD Scholarship in Differential Geometry

A PhD scholarship is available (with a 2014
start date) to work in the
group of Rod Gover, Department of Mathematics,
                        University of Auckland
to work on an aspect of the following project:

***********

Project: New directions at the geometry-analysis
                        frontier

Non-technical summary:

Geometric structures are intimately linked to
                        natural (or geometric)
PDEs and their analysis; these are the partial
                        differential equations
determined by geometric structure. New insights
                        connected to Cartan
geometries will be used to develop theory for
                        treating geometries,
PDEs, and their interactions, using uniform
                        principles. This approach
will be brought together with other tools, such
                        as variational theory,
to solve problems on the geometry-analysis
                        border.

The project is motivated by problems in
                        geometric analysis, representation
theory, and mathematical physics, and results
                        are to be applied to
these problems.
geometry, analysis,
